Three Writing Articles!

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry I just disappeared like I did. First off my five month old nephew died in a tragic accident that has left our family wrecked. Second I was in a very bad car accident. A drunk driver slammed into my SUV and I've spent all this time recuperating from it. And before that, well, those that know me know about the whole business with my fourteen year old cousin, first running away and disappearing for months and then getting pregnant by a twenty-two year old man that has done that before with another girl and so happens to be a very dangerous guy. So yeah, real life has been very hard for a while now.

But I was looking at this articles that the wonderful Sholio posted links to in her LJ and I just had to share them with you.

IMO I'm Loving It

Discussion Topic #1 - The Idea

When I was younger, I used to imagine myself far away: a spaceship jumping from one adventure to another, or lands filled with magic, fighting villains and slaying monsters. Sometimes the inspiration would come from a television show or cartoon, a movie or a book. Other times it would be something I observed, took note of and used it as a starting point for a story.

The idea is one of the most important aspects of writing. But where do we get these ideas? Do you have a specific technic? Or simple sit down in front of your computer and start writing? Do you keep a journal? Or a dream book that you look at to create a story? How do you come up with your ideas for a story?

And Exercise #1 is officially closed!

Thank you everyone that participated. Even if there were repeats, it's always interesting to read the different reasons someone feels about certain things.

We're off to a great start. The first topic up for discussion should be up soon. Again, thank you all for your participation!

Mod: Exercise #1, Half A Day left

Hey guys! We're counting down to the end of the first exercise and the start of our first discussion. I'm going to be giving until about noon tomorrow for anyone that wants to do the first exercise or add their two cents in. So if anyone wants to post, now would be the time to do it.

Mod: Exercise #1, three days left.

Hey guys! I just wanted to remind you that you have until this Saturday to post the first exercise. As always, you are free to come and go as far as joining in with the exercises, meaning just because you do one doesn't mean you have to do them all. You can do the ones you want. The same goes for the discussions.

Mod: Apologies

Hello everyone. I wanted to start off by apologizing for disappearing the way I did. I have had a very serious family situation going on and have been pretty much dealing with it for the past year. Real life has been slamming me from all sides and haven't had much time to be handling this community. With that said, I would like to get back into working on this community and writing if everyone's still interested.

Workshops 5.0!

Okay so we're almost ready to go but there is one last detail that needs to be worked out. Okay, here's the thing, I've been looking into writing workshops and most of them have a topic discussion before writing. So the way I see it, we have one of four options. Once the element of fiction is chosen, we can a) post links to articles that have helped us in the past when dealing with this particular element of fiction, b) discuss the topic for a couple of days before writing, c) do neither and just post the prompt with the element of fiction or d) do both and then post the prompt to write

So what do you guys think?

Workshops! 2.0

Soooo, I posted a poll in regards to how we could go about doing a workshop in this comm, since there seemed to be some interest, but so far, including myself, only two people have voted. So that tells me one of two things, people are incredibly busy and haven't seen it, or that people are just not interested. If you're not interested, please indicate this in this poll. If you are and simply haven't had the change to take a look at the poll, here's the link.
